New Year's Eve 2010 in London

Bookmark and Share

London is one of the most glamorous and visited cities in the entire world. The holiday season during late December is the busiest time of year, with the entire capital joining in festivities and every space of London a part of the canvas ready to be decorated. Each year in London has begun with a bang of fireworks and explosive cheer, followed by parties to last until the next one.

The London Eye is not an old establishment to the city, but it is one of the most beloved parts of many NYE revelers’ celebrations. On the eve of January 1st, over 150,000 people gathered to watch the firework display shown right after the bells of Big Ben chimed, indicating the future. This year promises to be no different, except for the fact that it may be bigger.

Akin to the famous party that happens in Times Square New York, the one outside of London disbands shortly after midnight, although there are of course the traditional wishing your neighbors a happy and safe New Year, and reveling in the promise of a fresh 365 days. There are those who opt to view the fireworks directly outside before joining the other millions of Londoners already partying inside one of the thousands of clubs, bars restaurants, music halls, and venues in the city. It is not unheard of that you simply cannot get into the heavily packed hotspots or nightclubs, as they all require you pay a lot for admission, and the tickets usually sell out by early December. There are places such as NewYearsEve.com that will give you an updated list of parties all over the world and their descriptions, with discounted tickets. There are celebrities, the elite and international partygoers all over London on New Years Eve, and if dancing and drinking with them is your idea of a good time, this is the perfect city.
There truly are events for EVERYONE in London on New Years, and they start early without an end in sight, so bouncing around from one to the next is not only fun, but encouraged. From the most lavish hotels accommodating visitors especially for the holiday to the gritty parties and unusual dances like the “Silent Disco” and Fetish Ball—the largest of its kind in all of Europe, London is definitely the epitome of diversity and excitement.

December 31st is not the only anticipated date in London, but January 1st’s parade is truly what completes the New Year’s holiday. Known as the greatest street parade in Europe and broadcast for the world to see, since it started in 1987, the New Year's Day Parade has raised or donated two thirds of a million pounds to charities, making it even more worthwhile. Going all throughout the city, everyone has a chance to participate, donate, and experience what it’s all about.

London is one of the most celebrated cities in the world, especially on such an eventful occasion. There are so many things to see and do, that you will be feeling their effects for the rest of the year.
